Horizontal / Vertical 1998
A handle bar is mounted horizontally on the wall. A second handle bar is mounted vertically on the ceiling.
In a long shot you can see how the artist tries to hold on to the vertical bar as long as possible. Slowly, sliding down the pole, he finally falls down. The video runs in a loop.
The artist also tries to hold on to the horizontal bar as long as his strength lasts. You can see the ankles of the hands turning white before the hands can no longer hold. Here the hands and the feet are filmed individually in close-up.
On one monitor you see your hands holding, on the other monitor your feet dangling in the air.
Both videos are clocked so that when the hands slide off the bar, the feet come to the ground a second later.

Eine Griffstange ist horizontal an der Wand befestigt. Eine zweite Griffstange ist vertikal an der Decke befestigt.
In einer Totalen sieht man wie der Künstler versucht sich solange wie möglich an der senkrechten Stange festzuhalten. Langsam, immer weiter die Stange hinunterrutschend, fällt er schließlich ab. Das Video läuft im Loop.
Auch an der horizontalen Stange versucht der Künstler sich solange zu halten, wie die Kräfte reichen. Man sieht wie die Knöchel der Hände weiß werden, bevor die Hände nicht mehr halten können. Gefilmt werden hier jeweils die Hände und die Füße einzeln in Nahaufnahme.
Auf dem einen Monitor sieht man die Hände sich haltend, auf dem anderen monitor die Füße in der Luft baumelnd.
Beide Videos sind so getaktet, daß wenn die Hände von der Stange rutschen, eine Sekunde später die Füße auf den Boden aufkommen.
